About Colchester

Colchester is a historic Essex town, it was Britain’s first city and former capital of Roman Britain and has recently been awarded city status as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Its rich history dates back over 2000 years and is ripe for exploring.

Walk five minutes from Culver Square and you can stand inside the largest Norman keep in Europe. Colchester Castle, the Roman walls and the Dutch Quarter make this one of Britain’s most layered city centres.

Castle Park, Lower Castle Park and the Dutch Quarter sit on the doorstep, with the river walk and Hilly Fields a short stroll further out. Pack a picnic from one of our cafés and make a day of it.

  • The majority of our staff are St John Ambulance trained First Aiders. Shifts are organised to ensure that we have first aiders on duty at all times during centre opening hours.

    A public access defibrillator is available which is mounted on the column between Fraser Hart and the former Debenhams. In an emergency call 999 and they will provide you with both directions and the code to gain access to the locked cabinet.

  • Culver Square provides you with a safe shopping experience. When visiting Culver Square don’t be surprised if one of our team approaches you if you are looking a little lost or you look like you just need some assistance — they’re here to help. Our shoppers’ safety is our number one priority, which is why we operate centre-wide covert and overt security measures, including CCTV. This service is for your safety, to give you a great customer experience and for crime prevention.

  • All restaurants and cafes within Culver Square Shopping Centre have their own toilet facilities. Baby changing facilities are available in both the male and female public toilet located in Sir Isaac’s Walk. Most stores in Culver Square Shopping Centre are ground floor only, giving easy access for prams and buggies.

  • If you have lost an item while visiting the shopping centre, please visit the Management Office to enquire about lost property or contact us using the link below.
